American POW left in Baghdad

Scott Speicher

March 12, 2002

Here's the latest news on Michael Scott Speicher. Please take time to write a letter or email your Senators and Representatives. If there is no public outcry, there will be no Government action... and we will all just be left to wonder, and wait on the next Intelligence leak on Speicher.

Type Michael Speicher in your browser if you want to learn more. This is the same guy that many people have been asking about since 1991. Our Government has Intel going back to Gulf War suggesting Speicher was POW... but a hasty assumption in the after mission report by his wingman, and the possibility of a faulty AN/PRC survival radio, were probably the reasons that no SAR was conducted at the time (loss was 17 JAN 1991 - the first night of the war). But when the "meat" that Saddam sent to our Government - that was supposed to be the "flesh of Michael" - didn't match DNA, why wasn't some sort of investigation made then?

Speicher's FA-18 was found out in the desert with no canopy or ejection seat (circa 1993). We sent a team to inspect it in 1995, but only after allowing the Iraqis to access the crash site first. Pres Clinton finally reclassified Speicher from KIA-BNR to MIA last January, but has our Government done anything? Here's some old articles:

Too bad we didn't have more commanders like Hal Moore ( in 1st Air Cavalry Division, he commanded 1st Battalion, 7th Cavalry in Central Highlands in 1965, and 3rd Brigade in II Corps/Bong Son in 1966). Read what he said to his troops back in '65 before the Ia Drang battles:

"We are moving into the Valley of the Shadow of Death where you will watch the back of the man next to you, as he will watch yours, and you won't care what color he is, or by what name he calls God. We are going into battle against a tough and determined enemy. I can't promise you that I will bring you all home alive. But this I swear... when we go into battle, I will be the first to step on the field and I will be the last to step off. And I will leave no one behind... dead or alive. We will all come home together." - LTC Hal Moore - 13Nov65

During Moore's '65 - '66 tour in Vietnam he had no MIAs or BNRs... he kept his word. We needed more men (and especially leaders) like Hal Moore then, and we need more like him now !! And we need to demand answers on Michael Scott Speicher. Please get in touch with your politicians.

Special thanks to each of you for your concern for our Veterans and their families !!! Please forward this to anyone, like yourself, that has a heart for Veterans.
